Feeling overwhelmed by “stuff”? Your closets are overflowing; your basement and/or attic have become catchalls for things you have no immediate use for but don’t want to part with. Using plastic storage crates with lids is a great way to clear the clutter. Plastic containers come in lots of sizes; there is a size for every need. Maybe you want to organize your freezer, there are sizes for this purpose. Maybe your garage is loaded with toys or gardening items, there are sizes for this also.
It can seem like too much but just take it one closet or room at a time. Storing seasonal clothes in large plastic containers with lids is a great way to keep your clothes neat and clean for the next season. Be sure to label your containers. A simple 3 x 5 card and some tape works well. When the season changes just swap the items in the plastic storage container with the out going season’s items. Keeping your items in plastic storage containers in the attic or basement also keeps them clean. Be sure to get the lid on to keep out the dust.
Using plastic storage containers are great for kitchen organization too. Do you find you have several gadgets that don’t get much use? Store them in plastic containers with lids. You can easily slide the containers into a cabinet over the fridge or in the corner of your pantry. Storing in plastic containers with lids will keep your gadgets clean and ready for use when you need it again. Plastic containers are also great for freezing foods. Make extra of your favourite soups then after cooling put into plastic containers with air tight lids and freeze. Be sure to label what it is and the date you put it in the freezer. This is a great way to freeze leftovers also. Be sure to pick a plastic container that is close in size to what you are freezing.
If you need to store small items but don’t want them to get lost in a box, use a plastic storage crate with dividers. Sort like items into the divisions. This will keep your items safe without being mixed in or lost with larger items.
Use heavy duty plastic storage crates in your garage. This is a great way to organize a cluttered garage. Using heavy duty crates will help protect your items from unwanted bumps and scrapes. They are great for storing outdoor toys or games. They can easily be dragged along a driveway or grass by the kids. Cleaning up is easy, just put it all back into the plastic storage container and back into the garage.
Plastic storage containers can be used for gardening items too. Store your hand tools and gloves in a plastic container with a lid. At the end of the season just give them a good cleaning and store them until next gardening season.
Do you live in an apartment with not a lot of storage room? Don’t forget about under your bed. You can find plastic storage containers with lids made for fitting under a bed. These containers are also nice for storing sweaters out of season. If your closet space is limited and no room for a dresser, the under the bed plastic storage containers are great for undergarments or socks. Don’t forget about your bathroom items. Storing hair ties, ribbons, clip, etc. in plastic containers and then sliding it under the sink is a great way to help with clutter in the bathroom.
